Most people don’t know that I officiate weddings.  I feel such an honor to be chosen for such an important day and it is something that I take very seriously.  I spend a lot of time getting to know the couple and writing a perfectly personalized ceremony.

One of the things I started doing very early in my officiating career was to ask the couple to each send me an email, (privately), telling me what they loved most about the other person.  These are the most sincere, lovely emails and none of them mention worldly accomplishments or physical traits being the things they love the most about their partner.  They all, each and every one of them, talk about character, quirks, and the true self of their beloved.

“She believes in me.”  “He makes me want to be a better person.”  “He makes me laugh even when I’m mad.”  “She has an amazing kindness for other people and I love that about her.”

These are some of the things these couples say.  Nothing about how much money they make, how physically fit they are, or how cool their car is.

The human spirit is constantly looking for connection.  We all seek love.  All. Of. The. Time.

It’s true.  You just need to think about it and break it down.  Why do you give your customers the best service?  Because you want them to love you enough to continue to support your business.  Why do you volunteer your time?  Because you want the satisfaction of self-love, or you want the love and admiration of someone in the group that you are serving.

It all comes back to love.

So what will you do today to give that love to someone else?  Compliment a stranger?  Hold the door?  Donate your time, talent or treasure?  Look into the eyes of your partner and say the words out loud?

As the leader of HEIDI’S CLUBHOUSE, I have seen an amazing outpouring of love from the women who have joined the club… for myself and each other.  By providing this group it is one way that I am able to give love… and one of the most rewarding ways to get it in return.
